Hi,
Haha! I've managed to get JabberWocky to replace StrICQ to a satisfactory
standard. Here is a step by step guide to setting up JabberWocky instead of
StrICQ:
1. Note down the ICQ UIN of all the people you want in your contact list
2. Load up JabberWocky
3. Select the JabberWocky->Account menu option
4. In the Jabber ID, put some username. The format is username@jabberserver.
Try to pick something that will be unique. The server I found to be the
fastest, and most reliable was jabber.earth.li, so, for example, my jabber ID
is Mr_Tickle123@jabber.earth.li
5. Put any old password in the box, and check the "Remember Password" option
6. Click Register. This should register your user on the server and put you
online. If you get any errors, try a different username or server
7. Select the Windows->Agents List option
8. Highlight "ICQ Transport" and click "Register"
9. Put your ICQ uin in the username, you password in the password box, and
your nick in the nick box. Everything else is optional, but I filled it in to
be sure.
10. Click "register". If all goes well, you should get
"icq.jabber.earth.li/registered" appear in your roster. If it has a yellow
lamp next to it, you are connected and ONLINE with the ICQ network!
11. Now we'll add an ICQ contact. Select the Roster->Add Contact option
12. In the "Jabber ID" box, put in the contact UIN followed by
@icq.jabber.earth.li. So, if you wanted to add me to your contact list, put
"34403081@icq.jabber.earth.li". Don't worry about the other boxes, just click
"Subscribe". The user should appear in your contact list (roster).
13. Now lets give the user a more memorable name. Highlight the newly added
contact, and select the Roster->Information menuoption. Put the name of your
contact in the Name box, and click update
14. Repeat steps 12 to 13 for each contact.
Thats it... you can now converse over ICQ using Jabber, and see who is online
or offline. Great eh? And NO PAGER MESSAGES!
